Individual, Relationship and Family COUNSELLING BASED IN WOKINGHAM

Family Counselling

Family life can bring joy and closeness, but it can also feel stressful, confusing, or full of conflict. When communication breaks down, it can be hard to know how to move forward. Family counselling offers a safe space for everyone to be heard and supported, without judgement.

I work with families around:

  • Conflict between parents, children, or siblings
  • Communication breakdowns or constant arguments
  • Parenting challenges and supporting teenagers
  • Stress from separation, divorce, or blended family life
  • Living with neurodiversity or ongoing health concerns
  • Coping with grief, loss, or major life changes
  • Estrangement between parents and adult children
  • Siblings wanting to repair or rebuild their relationship
  • Other family combinations, such as co-parents, stepfamilies, or extended family members, looking for new ways forward

Whatever the difficulties, Family counselling can help everyone feel more seen and supported. Each person brings their own perspective, and by exploring those together, new insights and shifts begin to happen. Even small shifts in these dynamics can create meaningful and positive changes over time.

Sessions are usually 75 minutes - long enough for everyone to have a voice, but not overwhelming for children or teenagers. Longer sessions can be arranged if needed.

As a systemically trained counsellor, I don’t take sides.

Instead, I help family members notice patterns, improve communication, and find new ways of relating that reduce conflict and strengthen connection.

Family counselling can be helpful whether you come as parents, with children, as siblings, or as adult family members wanting to rebuild.

My aim is to create a supportive environment where each person feels heard, valued, and understood.

I currently work as a Family counsellor with Relate, the UK's leading relationship support organisation.

Whether you’re seeking reconnection, healing, clarification, or support through a difficult time, family counselling offers a safe and nurturing space to explore new ways of relating to one another. If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch.

Please note:

If there is ongoing domestic abuse, family counselling is not a suitable option. In such cases, specialist support may be more appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a family counselling session?

Each session provides a safe space for family members to express their thoughts and feelings openly. The process is guided with care and neutrality, helping each person feel heard while working together towards understanding, improved communication, and positive change.

Who can attend Family counselling?

Family counselling is flexible and can involve parents and children (both under 18 and adults), co-parents, siblings, grandparents, or even estranged family members. It is open to any family members who wish to improve their relationships and explore challenges together.

Do all family members have to attend?

Not necessarily. While counselling can be beneficial with multiple family members, sometimes sessions may involve just one or two people. The approach is tailored to what feels most helpful for your situation.

What if not everyone in the family wants to participate?

Family therapy can still be effective even if not all members take part. Changes in communication and dynamics can still happen when even one person makes shifts in their approach.

How long does Family counselling take?

The length of therapy varies depending on the family’s needs. Some families find a few sessions helpful, while others may choose to engage in longer-term support. This will be discussed and agreed upon together.

Is Family counselling only for major conflicts?

No, family counselling can be helpful for a range of issues, from small misunderstandings to long-standing difficulties. It can also provide support through life transitions, blended family adjustments, or simply strengthening existing bonds.

How do I book a session?

If you’re interested in family counselling, please get in touch. We can arrange an initial conversation to discuss what might be helpful and find a time that works for you. You can book an appointment by either calling 07810 531372 (please feel free to leave a voicemail) or completing the online booking form.
